UFC 273 Main Card Preview

The UFC is set to produce another blockbuster fight card this weekend at UFC 273. Dana White has compiled a star-studded fight card to compete at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. This Saturday, April 9th, will see two championship bouts during the headlining and co-headlining event.

Main Event

Alexander Volkanovski (C) 23 – 1 – 0 vs The Korean Zombie 17 – 6 – 0

The main event features two legendary contenders for the UFC Featherweight Championship title. Volkanovski is coming off of a 20-fight win streak in which he has dominated every opponent with powerful combinations and relentless control on the ground. But the Korean Zombie is a different opponent than whom he’s seen before. The fan favorite, Korean Zombie, gets his nickname for the ability to come back in fights that most competitors would not finish. Both competitors are at the height of their careers as they continue to cement their legacy in the UFC. (Current Odds: Volkanovski -720 vs Sung Jung +500)*

Aljamain Sterling (C) 20 -3 -0 vs Petr Yan 16 – 2 – 0

In the co-main event you have two of the top fighters competing for the UFC Bantamweight Championship title. Aljamain Sterling is the current champion after his controversial win over Yan, and looks to prove that he is worthy of the championship belt. Petr Yan is looking to recapture the momentum he had before he got disqualified for the illegal knee that took down Sterling and ended the match. No matter which fighter comes out on top, there is guaranteed to be talks of a 3rd contest between them. (Current Odds: Sterling +350 vs Yan -475)*

Gilbert Burns 20 – 4 – 0 vs Khamzat Chimaev 10 – 0 – 0

Two big named fighters will be trying to position themselves as the next contenders for the UFC Welterweight Championship title. Burns will be avenging his previous loss to Lucas Barbosa and show that he is still worthy of the chance at Usman for the belt. The dominant Chimaev has been the talk of the UFC since he came to the promotion and boasts an undefeated record. This fight could be the main event on any card and is expected to be one of the best matches of the night. (Current Odds: Burns +375 vs Chimaev -510)*

Mackenzie Dern 11 – 2 – 0 vs Tecia Torres 13 – 5 – 0

This main card also features two ranked opponents trying to move up in the Women’s Strawweight division. Dern is the 5th ranked fighter in this weight class and is coming off a loss to Marina Rodriguez. Torres is the 8th ranked fighter and is on a 3 fight win streak. Both fighters have beat big named opponents but need a win on Saturday to stay afloat in the division. (Current Odds: Dern -115 vs Torres -105)*

Vinc Pichel 14 – 2 – 0 vs Mark Madsen 11 – 0 – 0

Rounding out the last fight of the main card is two up-and-comers competing for a rank in the Men’s Lightweight division. Pichel is on a 3 win fight streak and is seeking to be a staple in the division for years to come. Madsen, the olympian, has an undefeated record and hopes to use the big stage as a way to get his name out there. Both fighters have a lot to prove as they get a chance to showcase their skills at UFC 273. (Current Odds: Pichel -130 vs Madsen +110)*
